Dr. Martha Burk

Dr. Burk’s work has been featured by the U.S. Department of Labor, and has been presented by invitation to the National Academy of Sciences, the United Nations, UNESCO, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Security Agency, universities including Harvard, Stanford, Vanderbilt and others, as well as many private and non-profit organizations.

Dr. Burk advises city, county, and state governments on gender pay equity, and conducts internal pay analyses for private sector companies seeking to improve their understanding of wage gaps by gender and race. She designed and implemented the first-in-the-nation equal pay contractor reporting initiatives for the State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque.

Dr. Burk holds a Ph.D. in experimental psychology with an emphasis on research and statistics, and has authored major software systems under contract with the U.S. government for use in universities, school districts, private businesses, and non-profit organizations. She currently serves as Money Editor for Ms. Magazine, and is a frequent public speaker on topics of gender equity.
